the point of elite skills is that they are the best skills (when used correctly), and and to keep the balance of the game, the number of elites allowed was restricted.

Actually you can have more than one elite at a time, provided you capture elite skills during that run. But it only lasts for that run.

So if you loaded say 1 elite and 7 socs. And killed 7 bosses in that run, you'd have 8 elites in your skill bar.
